High Speed Extruders for Mono and Co-extrusion Applications
|
Finding the precise application process to achieve a desired characteristic is critical to producing a reliable sheet, maintaining customer satisfaction and the bottom line. Accomplishing these goals not only requires strategic equipment choices but engineering know-how that fulfills the basic needs of quality, performance and reliability. PTi's SUPER-G® HighSPEED™ extruders, SGHS3000 and SGHS3500, are viable solutions for accomplishing these goals and getting the most return on investment.

Accomplish More with Less...
|
Available in two bore sizes (3.0"/75mm & 3.5"/90mm diameters), PTi HighSPEED™ extruder processing capabilities include PP, PET, and PS. With typical screw speeds of up to 1000+ RPM, and a concentration on achieving maximum melt quality and temperature, these extruders are capable of producing higher yields in less residence time. Additionally, the unique feed arrangement permits high regrind recovery rates during high rates of performance, up to 70+%, contributing to efficient recovery of resin.

In addition to these significant output rates, the compact size of the HighSPEED™ tuck under models requires less square footage of factory floor space for machine occupancy, otherwise needed by conventional co-extrusion systems.

HighSPEED™ Mono extrusion Advantages
|
- Initial capital investment is offset by greater output levels.
- Multi-resin capabilities, including PP, PS and PET processing.
- Minimal floor space requirements lead to reduced overhead expense and availability to accommodate other operating needs.
- Enhanced operator safety and energy efficiency is achieved through CoolTOUCH™ shields ability to minimize heat dissipation.
- Efficient use of resin is realized thru elevated temperatures, shorter residence time and the unique feed arrangement that permits higher regrind recovery rates (up to 70+%).
- Greater clarity is achieved thru excellent melt quality and temperatures.

HighSPEED™ for Co-extrusion
|
Single polymer processes may lack the ability to accomplish the task efficiently, requiring processors to turn to co-extrusion to obtain desirable sheet qualities–stiffness, heat sealability, environmental resistances, etc. The benefits of co-extrusion go beyond these specific characteristics.
PTi's SUPER-G® HighSPEED™ series is a recommended solution for those looking for mono layer extrusion and/or AB or ABA layer co-extrusion capabilities with a minimal footprint. By combining the extraordinary power of the SGHS3500 extruder with that of the SGHS3000, output rates of 4000+ pph can easily be achieved.
Co-extrusion allows processors to save significant raw material costs by reducing the amount of expensive colorants/additives and by concealing mixed regrind colors under opaque colorants. When configured in an appropriate ABA thickness distribution, co-extrusion can also be utilized to reprocess non-FDA Post Consumer Reclaim (PCR) into all FDA and EFSA direct food contact applications, making it an ideal process for food packaging applications.
|
HighSPEED™ Co-extrusion Advantages:
|
- Quality. Layering compatible polymers yields characteristics not physically or economically feasible in monolayer or compounded structures.
- Efficiency. Creating multi-layer structures in a single pass reduces the number of steps required in the overall extrusion process.
- Cost Savings. Appropriate layering of varied polymers and property criteria can provide cost savings, especially when looking to reduce dependency on the amount of virgin polymer required within the sheet.
- Energy Savings. Less energy is required to power the extrusion line when accomplished in a singular pass
- Sustainability Attributes. Utilizing PCR/PIR within the layer structure, attributes greater sustainability properties to the sheet.
